Our Mission

Antigypsyism is historically rooted and deeply embedded in society. This specific form of racism is often overlooked or downplayed. Our mission is to make antigypsyism visible, empower those affected, and help build structures that actively counter it.

MIA aims to bring visibility to the often-hidden reality of antigypsyist incidents and to gain a clearer understanding of their scope, forms, and the needs of those affected. Based on this, we work to develop targeted quality standards and awareness-raising training for civil society organizations and public institutions.

Our work focuses on four key areas:

Documentation and analysis:
We record and analyze incidents of antigypsyism—nationwide, systematically, and independently. We receive reports via phone, online, or in person. We document a range of incidents, including physical attacks, threats, property damage, graffiti, verbal abuse, hate speech, and propaganda materials such as leaflets, posters, or stickers.

Support and referral services:
We offer low-threshold initial and referral counseling for those affected, connecting them with appropriate legal, social, or psychosocial support services to ensure they receive the help they need.

Awareness and advocacy:
We raise awareness of antigypsyism through education, networking, and political advocacy. We expose discrimination and structural inequality, and our documentation helps inform strategies developed by public authorities, civil society, and policymakers to prevent and combat antigypsyism.

– Empowerment and training:
We promote empowerment and awareness through workshops, regional conferences, and training sessions—designed for affected individuals, professionals, and actors in the public sector.

Our mission is to build a strong, sustainable network against antigypsyism—for a just and discrimination-free society.
